Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge, ‘Gadgeteers’, is all about science and innovation.

Developed in partnership with the Science Museum Group, the Challenge will inspire children to use their curiosity and creativity to discover the science behind the everyday and celebrates the role of the imagination in both reading and the sciences.

The Gadgeteers are six young friends who love hanging out at their local community centre, and are planning a party. They all enjoy creating new inventions and working together to solve problems! Using their imagination and curiosity, the Gadgeteers will come up with innovative ways to get everything ready for the summer party. This setting will allow children to explore the science behind a range of interests, from fashion and technology to cooking and music.

The Challenge starts on Saturday 9th July ending on Saturday 3rd September.

There are rewards for children to work towards and a medal and certificate upon completion. The age range is 4-11 but this year there is also a pre-school challenge for under 3's.

Come in to the library to find out how to get involved.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to invite you to sign up for a FREE one hour workshop, ‘The Gadgeteers Mission’ to be run at the library by Explore Learning. Explore Learning are one of the sponsors of the Summer Reading Challenge and the session is designed to be educational, fun and interactive and is open to any member of the library 5-11 years of age.

There are four sessions available – to sign up you simply need to come into the library to complete a form with all the relevant details. The sessions will be limited in terms of numbers so early sign up is recommended.
