Management Update – Little Chalfont Community Library

I am delighted to report that Little Chalfont Community Library is under new management.

The new team are experienced volunteers Geraldine Newman, Gill Hudgell and Wendy Yellowley who have also joined the Library Committee. They have been responsible for the running of the Library since 1st September and they are sharing the responsibilities between them. They each bring a different but complementary set of skills to the Library and are looking to keep our Library as popular as ever.

David Retires as Library Manager

We held a small drinks party in the library this week to mark our library manager’s retirement. Many of you will recognise David who has been the welcoming face of the library ever since we opened 15 years ago. Fortunately he will continue to be very much a presence in the library, volunteering and running the film nights.

It was great to have the three Chairmen (two past and one present) all together with him, along with many volunteers.

Chairman's Introduction

The chair of the Library Trustees is Graham Yellowley.

Graham said "The Library is a tremendous asset to the Community and I am honoured to become Chairman, having been a Trustee since October 2018. The Library provides a warm and friendly service to its Customers through Volunteers, Trustees, website manager and many others, they are a great team.

"The Library has grown from strength to strength with 20,000 visitors per year and is known for its up to date ranges of books for all ages, film shows, knit & knatter, computer classes and other events.

"Going forwards the challenge for the Library is:-

  1. funding to continue to generate income to meet its running costs and

  2. to transition from the Bucks County Council to the Bucks Unitary Authority.

"In terms of funding the Library requests and receives grants from Little Chalfont Parish Council, Chiltern District Council as well as donations from Community residents and other charities. Without these the Library would not be able to sustain its service to the Community.

"The creation of the Bucks Unitary Authority in 2020 brings changes to the whole of Buckinghamshire and the contractual relationship that exists between Bucks County Council and Little Chalfont Community Library will need to be transitioned to Bucks Unitary Authority. I will be liaising with Bucks County Council on the transition and managing the changes to the Library’s contract.

"I believe the Little Chalfont Community Library has a bright future and I look forward to seeing you there."
